How To Create A Post Sumary In WordPress
One of the things that many bloggers have to decide is how many posts to have on their page and whether to show the hold pot or just a summary.
Personally, when I visit the front page of a WordPress blog, I like seeing a summary of about 5 – 10 posts. Then if there is a heading/summary that I like I will click to continue reading, although some viewers don’t mind seeing the full content of each recent post.
This is something you will need to decide, which you control on your WordPress blog by choosing Settings > Reading > There as you can see from the image to right you can choose to show latest posts or have a static page. Show the number of posts to display on the page and whether to show the whole post or just a summary…
I believe excerpts, especially in search results, helps the reader get to the information they need faster, making them happier readers, thus I’m in favour of using excerpts on multi-post pages in all WordPress Themes, not full content views.
Once you’ve done this, the easiest way to show a summary of your post is once in your wordpress editor, select the move tag which will insert a break line in your post. Just drag it to were you would like it in your post. Everything above the line will display in the post summary.
